HIKE IT BABY STORIES
Real parents, real stories, real community.
FINDING COMMUNITY
"I needed nature, but I was afraid to hike alone. When I discovered Hike it Baby... all the moms waited and were there to support me."
Maria was new to the area when she found out her baby had Cystic Fibrosis. She knew nature could help her feel better, but was worried about getting outside with a medically fragile infant. She found a supportive community and the healing calm of nature when she connected to her local Hike it Baby branch.
HIKING THROUGH PPD
"It was so great to be with other parents who knew what I was going through. "
Hike it Baby South King County Branch Ambassador Adrienne Brand didn't recognize that she had post-partum depression after having her first son. All she knew was she just wasn't happy and she didn't feel connected to her son. Then she starting hiking and talking to other women, and slowly she found her happy place again.
REDEFINING PARENTHOOD
"If I can do that, I can do anything."
Chris and Patty Flanagan-Linderman became parents in their late 60's and they were determined to not let their age or their new role as parents stop them from continuing to spend time outdoors. In fact, it had just the opposite effect.
FIRST HIKE
"My life doesn't have to change because I have a baby."
Even though Dini was told during her childhood in South Africa "we don't do that" when she asked about hiking and camping, today she says "I feel like I belong outside." Dini on her first hike with Hike it Baby: "It was a great experience stepping outside with my daughter with other moms. That's when I knew this is my family right here."
